Privacy Policy
I provide translation, revision and proofreading services and if you're contacting me, chances are you need one of those services. In order for me to provide a quote for a service, I'm going to need to see the documents you need me to work on. I realise that these documents may contain corporate information, private or even sensitive information and I am, naturally, willing to sign an NDA or its fancier DPA counterpart. Even if we don't sign one of these, I hold myself to my own strict professional ethics and standards, and those of the Professional associations I am a part of (ITI, CIOL and APTRAD) and always keep all information that is shared with me and which I process private and confidential.
You can contact me either directly by email at [email protected], via the contact form available on this website or even by calling the number indicated at the bottom of the page. Establishing contact implies the sharing of information, such as your name, email address, telephone number, etc. otherwise, how would we be able to communicate, right? But don't worry. Like you, I hate being bombarded with unnecessary or unwanted email so you won't be getting any mass or marketing email from me. Any emails or messages we exchange will be strictly related to the business at hand, in other the words, the service you need.
I sometimes work with a trusted colleague on larger or more complex projects or to proofread or revise work. When this happens, all personal information will be anonymised or removed before files are sent to her. She is also held to professional secrecy and confidentiality. I also have an accountant who files my taxes so they may have access to your information if we get to the invoicing stage of our business relationship, and the same goes for the Tax Authorities.
All my work is kept on a secure external hard drive and on G-Suite cloud in case I need to access it remotely. My laptop is password protected and has the most up-to-date Internet Security Suite, including anti-malware and ransomware protection, a firewall, web, file and app protection. All technical security measures are regularly updated.
Of course, you can always contact me asking to have your personal data rectified, restricted or erased or even to object to me using your information. I will do my best to respond to your request within fifteen days at the most, barring any unforeseen circumstances. However, please note that I do have some retention periods I need to comply with, such as keeping information for 2 (two) years for reference purposes and 10 (ten) years for statutory tax purposes. I also keep photocopies of certified translations for 5 (five) years.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority in Portugal (CNPD) or in your country of residence.
In the unlikely event that someone manages to hack into my laptop, I'll alert the Portuguese Data Protection Authority (CNPD) within 72 hours letting them know of the personal data breach, what I did about it and any possible consequences. If your information was affected, you'll be notified too.
